Quiet Beginning

Oh my god. Well you really put your foot in it this time. How is it possible for someone to be so stupid and so blind?
The words her mother would say if she found out rotated in her mind like a circular saw. But she had slipped out of the door and was away, walking, before anybody could find out.
There’d be people to face that evening but the day was clear and cold and the sky was high, light and blue. Perfect for walking. For a while the voices in her head stilled and there was only the sound of her feet rocking her along.
She spent her allowance on fast food and slept on a park bench. In the morning there were buses, roads, other towns. Returning was not necessary.
